This morning we have an answer to that eternal question: Where’s The Beef?
Today, it was at the Meals on Wheels Olathe Kitchen!
This week happens to be the 14th annual “Champions Week”, where elected officials, county government leaders, firefighters and police officers ride along with the volunteers on their regular routes.
But, the truth is, those volunteers are champions, 52 weeks a year.

It takes about 54 volunteers a day to get the meals out to clients all over Johnson County.
This morning they were preparing around 700 lunches and, on this particular day, breakfasts too.
According to nutrition manager, Nancy Tanquary, the volunteers make the wheels turn and they are always on the lookout for more folks “driven to do good” in the community.
Food safety is also a priority with nothing being left to chance in keeping the cold foods cold and the hot foods hot.

But, as anyone involved with the program will tell you, the social and safety aspects of this outreach are as valuable as the delicious delectables.
For many clients, hearing the Meals on Wheels knock on the door is the highlight of the day. The visit itself is an important part of a balanced diet, both emotionally and mentally.
While the tasty, nutritious food is vital, it is much more than just the meal that gets delivered hundreds of times a day around Johnson County.
