Midwest Adaptive Sports is hosting a free event allowing youth of all ages to experience sports from a wheelchair. The Athletes on Wheels Sports Experience will be held at Platte County Community Center South at 8875 Clark Avenue in Parkville, Missouri. The event starts on Wednesday, December 28 and goes through Friday, December 30. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The participants will be introduced and instructed on a variety of sports and recreational events, including basketball, laser tag, karate, swimming and other activities. Youth are invited to bring a friend or peer who will also participate in a wheelchair. They will learn how to be positive in competition, learn new skills and develop new friendships. Lunch will be provided each day with snacks and drinks.
Caleb Roach, an 11 year old wheelchair athlete is a participant of the program. He told 41 Action News that wheelchair basketball is fun because you can wheel, and you don't have run all the time. He also said it's challenging and a little more competitive than regular basketball.
To register for the Athletes on Wheels Sports Experience go to Midwest Adaptive Sports' website or call 816-287-2011.
