Families work out together with WERQ

Posted

If you're ready for some fun, give WERQ a try. I did and I had a great time.

WERQ is a dance fitness workout that includes popular music and family-friendly, fun dance moves. There are two types of WERQ - one for ages 16 and up and Family WERQ for ages 4 and up. I went to the family WERQ at the Breath and Be Yoga Fitness Center in Stilwell, Kansas.

Casey Carrigan is a certified WERQ instructor. There were about 20 kids and 10 parents, and they were all excited to be there. The music started and the kids and adults started dancing, following the instructor. They had fun moves including jumping and the air-guitar. During the 45-minute workout, every muscle group gets an aerobic workout, and the brain is also challenged.

"People have to learn and remember the moves and put them together, so it's a workout for the body and the brain," said Carrigan.

Parents said they like working out with their kids because they are setting a positive example they hope their children will follow when they become adults.

First-timers can pay $10 and bring the whole family for a workout. If you decide to join, there are several different family packages.
