With temperatures rising, now is the time to start thinking about your pets.
Although the air temperature may be tolerable, the temperature on the pavement is much warmer.
Pavement absorbs heat from the sun and can stay hot for hours even after the sun has gone down, and in some cases, depending on the air temperature, can be over 145 degrees!
For example, a day with a temperature of 87 degrees the pavement temperature would be around 143 degrees - at 125 degrees skin destruction can occur within 60 seconds.
In order to protect your pet test the area of pavement by placing the back of your hand against it for 7 seconds to verify if it will comfortable for your pet.
Also avoid activities during the heat of the day and if you must be outside walk on grassy surfaces.
Remember a dog's paws are equivalent to you walking barefoot; if its too hot for you then it's too hot for them.
