September is National Cannoli Month!

Only a couple days left to celebrate

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It’s time to praise the not-so-lowly cannoli, otherwise known as tubes of tastiness, pastries of perfection or funnels of flavor.

About ten years ago, Jasper Mirabile of Jasper’s at 103rd Street and State Line Road realized that just about every other food had a day of recognition.

But, NOT the cannoli! No, the cannoli deserved an entire month, September.

A traditional Sicilian cannoli is fried pastry dough filled with ricotta and something sweet.

Mirabile has taken that idea and expanded on it. He makes cannoli espresso, a doughnut hole cannoli and even cannoli inspired by movie stars.

He cooked up the “Katherine Hepburn” early Thursday morning for 41 Action News in his kitchen.

The “Hepburn” grew from an article Jasper read about the movie icon’s favorite brownies.

Mirabile’s cannoli cravings also led him to create “Obi Wan Cannoli!" which is a way to deep-fry the pastry and keep it perfectly tubular at the same time.

So, take a moment to consider the cannoli. More importantly, head out to Jasper’s and take many moments consuming the cannoli!
