Super Bowl Snack Recipes: Rhiannon Ally's family fun-filled puppy chow

Posted

Growing up when we made this, we called it “Puppy Chow,” but many people know it as “Muddy Buddies!”

The ingredients are basically the same as the original Chex recipe, but I’ve made changes over the years.

So, recipe (partly) courtesy of Chex.

If you have kiddos, this is a great recipe for them to help out on!

Rhiannon’s Irresistible Puppy Chow

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups Rice Chex, Corn Chex or Chocolate Chex cereal (I prefer Corn Chex.)
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 ½ or 2 cups powdered sugar (I like to go heavy on the powdered sugar at the end.)

Instructions:

  1. Measure out cereal into a large bowl.
  2. Put the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter in a 1-quart microwaveable bowl, and microwave on high for 1 minute. Continue to microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth.
  3. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.
  5. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag.
  6. Add powdered sugar to the bag and seal. Shake until well coated.
  7. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Notes:

Rhiannon suggests using less Chex than the recipes on the boxes typically call for so each piece is coated more evenly with a thick layer of chocolate and powdered sugar.
