Taste & See KC: Bartle Hall Sky Stations

Posted
and last updated

The Bartle Hall Sky Stations are a staple in Kansas City’s skyline.

Artist R.M. Fischer and A. Zahner Company, a family-owned firm based in Kansas City, Missouri, made the stainless steel and aluminum sculptures. They were added to the KC skyline in 1994.

The sculptures are inspired by the 1930s Art Deco style, which is seen in the Municipal Auditorium's chandeliers and decorative designs at Bartle Hall, according to Zahner.

In May 2016, an inspection crew found one of the sculptures was damaged by a lightning strike. Crews removed the sculpture and repaired the damage.

The sculpture returned to its rightful place in September 2016.
