KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- I want to thank the women executives at UMB Bank in downtown Kansas City for helping teenage girls in my nonprofit organization, Awesome Ambitions, get the information they need to be smart about their finances.
UMB last Saturday hosted a half-day seminar called Money Savvy at the downtown Kansas City bank at 1010 Grand Blvd.
Almost 20 women executives led interactive break-out sessions teaching the girls about credit, debt, buying a house, renting an apartment, and developing a budget. In one session the girls played a game using candy to learn the difference between wants and needs and how to decide priorities in spending.
I also appreciated that the women executives talked about their paths to careers in banking.
Awesome Ambitions is a college and career readiness program for 8th through 12th-grade girls in the Kansas City area. Scripps Howard Broadcasting and 41 Action News help sponsor the program. As Founder and President, I appreciate area businesswomen like the UMB executives who help inform, empower and inspire our Awesome girls to achieve their dreams.
