Angie's List: Millennials and homes

What's the deal with millennials? If you pay attention to the news, you've probably come across several articles claiming that people born between '85 and '95 are entitled, lazy and broke; they move back in with their parents, they spend all their time Snapchatting, and they don't make major investments in things like cars or homes.

If you're feeling attacked, millennial readers, there's some good news: these stereotypes don't appear to have much basis in reality.

During a recent homeowner survey, Angie's List found that millennials who own homes are just as proactive and responsible as other generations. In fact, millennials plan to spend as much or more than other demographics on home improvements over the course of the next year.

What does separate millennials from previous generations is the way they find and execute ideas for home improvement.

"I think there are just so many online resources that can help you with inspiration, so I think that's a big thing," said one surveyed homeowner, 31, who recently moved into her first home with her husband and child.

Millennials also take on more DIY projects and use more smart technology in their homes than previous generations.
