Alabama airport unveils Luke Bresette plaque

Posted

Nearly two years after 10-year-old Luke Bresette was killed by a falling sign at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, the airport has honored his memory with a plaque.

Bresette and three other members of his family — his mother Heather, 8-year-old brother Sam and 5-year-old brother Tyler — werestruck by the falling signon their way home from a family vacation in Florida during March 2013; it took six other people to lift it off of them.

By the time the sign had been pulled away, Tyler had a concussion, Samuel's nose and leg were broken and Heather's pelvis had been crushed.

Luke, whom friends and family describe as an energetic boy and passionate young Royals fan, was dead.

The memorial plaque, which includes a picture of Luke and an inscription chosen by his family, will hang in the upper level of the east ticket lobby at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International.

The inscription reads: "In life, he taught us to live each day to the fullest with strong faith and forgiveness in our hearts. With his passing, we are reminded to value every single day with our children, and to live like Luke."
