KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forte’ gave an update Friday afternoon on COVID-19 at the county jail.

Forte’ said three inmates at the Jackson County Detention Center are in a precautionary quarantine due to possible exposure to the virus.

Five non-inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, Forte’ said.

The facility’s first case of COVID-19 was reported in mid-April.

Previously, the county had begun releasing non-violent offenders after Kansas City’s stay-at-home order went into effect to lessen the chances of an outbreak.
