INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Hundreds of cars were 'reeled in' at B&B Theatres in Independence over the weekend, as the theatre opened its drive-in theatres.

“Oh, I feel so free," said customer Carrie Tait. "Getting out of the house and doing something and seeing people."

Saturday, a spokesperson for B&B told 41 Action News cars lined up an hour before gates opened at 7:30 p.m., and a total of 700 cars showed.

“I think that was really a testament that it was really the right thing to do for us, that people are hungry to get out and enjoy the magic of the movies again," Paul Farnsworth said.

Movies will be shown on a rotating schedule. Friday's showings were “The Goonies” on one screen and “Wonder Woman” on the other. On Saturday, “Groundhog Day” will hit one screen and “Wizard of Oz” on the other.

The drive-in costs $20 per carload, and cash is not accepted.

The concession stand will be open, but with social distancing measures in place. Snack bar sales will require a debit or credit card and a maximum of 10 people at the snack bar will be allowed, including children.

Movie goers must remain in their vehicles unless using the restroom or purchasing snacks.

No pets are allowed and B&B Theatres said refunds and exchanges will not be allowed.

B&B Theatres encouraged customers to purchase tickets online to ensure a car spot.
