KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Belton woman in her 70s is the first person in Cass County to die from the coronavirus, county officials said Wednesday.
The woman, who had not traveled recently, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 20. The Cass County Health Department said in a news release that she died Tuesday.
She had underlying health issues, according to the county.
It is the ninth death reported in the seven-county Kansas City metro.
Cass County officials urged residents to continue taking preventive actions to slow the spread of the virus.
