KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Middle and high school students in the Blue Valley School District will return to remote-only learning between Thanksgiving and the start of the Winter Holiday break on Dec. 22.

In an update posted on the district’s website, officials said that while early childhood and elementary school students will remain in full-time, in-person learning, middle and high school students will make the switch to remote learning on Nov. 30.

Superintendent Dr. Tonya Merrigan wrote that changing the learning modes will allow the district to concentrate teachers and other resources to elementary school students and students with disabilities.

“Additional school closures are possible if the district cannot staff buildings with qualified substitutes,” Merrigan said.

Earlier this week, the Shawnee Mission School District said it has become increasingly difficult to staff classrooms with substitute teachers.
