KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Monday, Blue Valley Schools released the learning modes for its students from Jan. 4 through Jan. 15.

Early childhood and elementary school students will continue in-person learning, while middle and high school students will remain in a remote learning mode until Jan. 15.

On Jan. 19, those older students will transition to a hybrid model to start the second semester.

"We know there are mixed feelings about the different learning modes," the district said in a letter to families. "We have known from the beginning of the school year that the in-person mode would need to be responsive to the activity of the COVID-19 virus and could include the full in-person, hybrid or distance learning formats."

The district continued following criteria from the Kansas State Department of Education in making its decision.

The district is currently following the "yellow" mode of the community gating criteria.
