PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. — At least one resident at a Prairie Village senior living center has tested positive for COVID-19.
Brighton Gardens of Prairie Village confirmed Thursday that it has at least one patient who tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
A family member concerned for her parents told 41 Action News the executive director of the facility has told them ofthere are multiple cases.
Sunrise Senior Living, which operates Brighton Gardens, deferred all other details to the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment, which had not confirmed how many cases the facility is dealing with as of Thursday night.
Denise Falco, vice president of operations for Sunrise Senior Living, said in a statement that after learning about a positive case they "contact all residents and families via phone and follow up with a letter to confirm."
A letter was sent April 17 to families as a follow up to announcing the initial COVID-19 case three weeks eaelier.
Lisa Barnes, executive director of Brighton Gardens, said her staff continues to monitor employees and residents on a daily basis, including checking temperatures.
The family member told 41 Action News that brighton Gardens hasn't confirmed any new cases since that April 17 letter.
According to a statement from Sunrise Senior Living, they began providing full personal protective equipment to staffers, prohibiting non-essential workers, implementing screening protocols, restricting new move-in and ending communal dining in February.
Falco said in any of Sunrise Senior Living's communities with a positive case, the company is undertaking several steps to keep its facilities safe including:
- Hiring professional cleaning services to manage sanitation of the building
- Bringing in additional nurses and support teams to help provide our residents with the level of care they need in coordination with the resident's physician
- Communicating with each resident, physician and family to coordinate care and personal needs
