KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It's supposed to be the happiest day of their lives. But for some couples, their wedding will have to wait.

Recent guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend a 50-person limit on public gatherings.

Brittny Elder and Scott Roberts were planning on tying the knot this weekend, but the couple decided to postpone their wedding.

"I saw the CDC guidelines Sunday night and showed it to Scott and immediately started panicking," Elder said.

The couple decided to try to postpone their big day for eight weeks when they hope the CDC guidelines will not still be in effect.

"It's rough on both of us,” Roberts said. “Very depressing because we've been fighting for this for quite some time and everything was going good up until now.”

Even without a 50-person guideline, Elder said the wedding wouldn't be the same if it was this weekend since a handful of family members had to back out due to health concerns.

"I don't want anybody to feel excluded, and our wedding was already fairly small,” Elder said. “It's just not right to have it cut down even more, it's just not going to be what we wanted.”

Elder said she spent most of Monday reaching out to her vendors, who are working with her.

"At this point, everything's been paid for,” Elder said. “So we're hoping to just coordinate a later date that works for everybody.”
