KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Emerson Kaiser played her last soccer game. She just didn't know it at the time.

"I'm not playing soccer in college," the Mill Valley High School senior said. "It was my last opportunity and I didn't even know when my last soccer game was when it happened."

Her teammate, Annie Hoog, will be playing college soccer next season at Benedictine. But that didn't lessen the blow of the cancellation of all high school spring sports in the state of Kansas.

"I've always watched those seniors come off and play their last minutes of their careers," Hoog said. "Knowing that I won't have that this year is really sad and heartbreaking."

Mill Valley had five senior girls playing soccer this season and had the makings of one of their best teams ever.

"Never in our wildest dreams did we think that (it would be) nothing, end of story," Mill Valley Head Coach Arlan Vomhof said.

Just two of Mill Valley's five seniors will be playing college soccer.
