LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — The Style Room, located in downtown Lee's Summit, will open their doors on Monday to the public for the first time in seven weeks.

Several changes will be implemented at the salon, including clients washing their hands before they arrive.

Hair stylists will not be double booking, so clients will remain in their stylist's chair the entire time.

Each of the stylists will be wearing masks, and clients will be asked to do the same.

Also, if someone does arrive early, they're asked to stay in their cars rather than in the waiting room. The clients will wait to receive a text or call from their stylists when he or she is ready.

Thorough cleaning of hair bowls and stations after each client will continue to be implemented.

Co-owner Kelly Trekell, said another change that will impact the stylists is the amount of hours they'll now be working.

"We’ve had to go back to where it’s just a 20-hour week per stylist because of the distancing we have to spread out," Trekell said. "And it’s going to be a huge change because a lot of us are used to working nonstop."

Co-owners Trekell and Kristy Knox say they're excited to get back and see their clients, although it will be very different.

"We’re gonna get through it," Trekell said. "We definitely have some challenges ahead of us, not only as people that work in the salon but as the owners of this business. But we’ve faced this before, I know we’re going to get through it. It’s just a change."

Around this time last year, they dealt with a fire, which forced the salon to close for a few weeks. They said they've been able to overcome obstacles in the past. She says the employees and the community lift eachother up during the past several weeks.

"We've had a lot of really kind people in our community. We've had a one of the local churches here in Lee's Summit donate," Trekell said. "So that was a huge amazing blessing for all of us. And we've had a lot of great people just reach out to us and kind of help us during this time that we're all facing."
