KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The area's homeless will have motel rooms available if they test positive for COVID-19.

The Kansas City, Missouri, City Council approved spending $80,000 for 20 motel rooms that would be used by homeless victims of the virus.

The motel is located at 1409 Admiral Boulevard.

The legislation text states the city has no available housing options under its control for necessary and appropriate quarantine or isolation of individuals without current housing.

The motel rooms provide a safe place to stay for those battling the virus and takes a little pressure off hospitals.

"Outstanding that we moved forward today in Kansas City on housing for homeless persons suffering from effects of COVID-19,'' Mayor Quinton Lucas tweeted after the council meeting. "Proud that we are leading in a response for all impacted, no matter their economic or housing status.''
