KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As residents continue to stock up on groceries, vendors and farmers at the City Market say they are open for business but are taking precautions following concerns about the coronavirus.
"(Customers) can actually pull up, give us a list. We will fill it in their own bags or we can use our bags, and bring it to them. They don’t even have to get out of their car," said Ben Wisdom, who owns Christina's Produce in the City Market.
Wisdom told 41 Action News that while concerns surrounding the coronavirus haven’t stopped customers from coming and buying produce at his store, business at his Burrito Brothers restaurant is down.
Like other restaurants in the city, business has been restricted to carry-out, delivery or curb-side service only.
"We're working harder now than ever," Wisdom said.
The farmers market is also open, with restrictions.
Officials have limited vendors to include only those who sell food-related products, including produce, plants and prepared foods. The farmers market hours have also been reduced from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The market will be closed on Sundays.
"We're trying to meet all of the guidelines that are going on. We’re trying to be mindful of that," said farmers market manager Deb Connors. "A lot of our vendors, this is their only income or their main income. Some of our vendors sell to restaurants, the restaurants have canceled their order. It’s just steam rolling is so many ways. This is their livelihood."
