KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Four more residents at the River Bend Post-Acute Rehabilitation Facility have died from COVID-19, the Unified Government Public Health Department said Thursday.

The death toll at the facility stands at 19.

A total of 116 residents and staff have tested positive for COVID-19 since the cluster was identified. Ten residents remain hospitalized.

In a letter to the community, Unified Government Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allen Greiner said he was “saddened to see so many people impacted by COVID-19 and to have lost more of our community members to this disease.”

Greiner said his staff has been asked by residents in the neighborhoods surrounding the facility if they are safe.

“The highest risk connected to this cluster of cases is for anyone who has spent time inside the facility, [or] in close contact with residents or staff who are infected,” he said.

Greiner said those in the surrounding neighborhoods who haven’t been inside the facility or in close contact with someone who has tested positive aren’t at any greater risk than “anyone else living in Wyandotte County.”
