KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The General Motors Fairfax Assembly and Stamping Plant will resume operations June 1 in Kansas City, Kansas.

A spokesperson for GM confirmed that production of Cadillac XT4 and Chevrolet Malibu will resume after more than two months.

GM initially suspended manufacturing operations in late March amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The focus for employees returning to work will be on our new safety protocols as a result of COVID-19,” a company spokesperson said in an email to 41 Action News. “We will conduct detailed safety orientation sessions to ensure everyone understands GM’s safety system and can ask questions.”

Hand-sanitizing, mandatory company-provided face masks, social-distancing, temperature screening and “a simple COVID-19 questionnaire” are among the new entry protocols for the Fairfax plant and other GM facilities, according to the company’s COVID-19 employee guide.

GM also is beefing up the frequency and intensity of cleaning and will provide sanitizer and disinfecting wipes for employees.

Physical distancing will be encouraged in all common areas and employees are asked not to come to work with a fever or if someone in their household exhibits symptoms associated with coronavirus.

GM’s employee guide also includes recommendations for safety outside the workplace, including regular cleaning of frequently touched surfaces and wearing masks while running errands.

The company also recommended keeping masks in a brown paper bag at home.

The Claycomo Ford Plant resumed operations Monday. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson toured the facility last week.
