KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Missouri Gov. Mike Parson is extending the state’s stay-at-home order until May 3, he announced Thursday.
The move comes after Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly extended her state’s order to the same date on Wednesday.
Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas announced Thursday morning that he extending his city’s stay-at-home order until May 15.
Parson said Missouri-specific data showed very early signs that the state's efforts were slowing the progression of the spread of COVID-19, even in more populated areas such as St. Louis and Kansas City.
Reopening the state remains a priority, Parson said, and he announced several measures the state will take in that effort.
Those measures include:
- Protecting health care workers, first responders and direct-care workers
- Strategically reopening businesses
- Expanding testing for those who are sick and those who have developed immunity
- Expanding reserves of personal protective equipment
- Monitoring hospital and health care facilities, including alternative care sites
- Monitoring Missouri-specific data for potential outbreaks
"The best thing we can do is reopen this state for everyone and be smart about it," Parson said.
