KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Starting tomorrow, officials with the Jackson County government and area churches will start distributing 100,000 masks to help limit the spread of coronavirus.

With the county remaining in a reopening phase that requires masks to be worn in public indoor and public outdoor spaces, officials are hopeful the mask distribution can give residents extra resources.

“Wearing a mask has been shown to slow the spread of this deadly disease and will ultimately save lives. Therefore, it is critical that we remove any barriers that could prevent people from wearing them – whether it be cost, accessibility or availability,” Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. said in a statement.

The masks will be given away from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., July 15, at the Grain Valley Community Center, 713 N. Main St. Each person is eligible for 10 disposable masks. Roughly 15,000 masks are ready to be distributed.

The masks come courtesy of the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency.

“I am proud to work with the elected leaders of Jackson County who have been great team players in our collective fight against COVID-19,” Gov. Mike Parson said. “We share a common priority of keeping our residents healthy and safe. Any resources that the state can provide to maintain that commitment, I am willing to assist to support that effort.”

Details for additional distributions will be available on the county’s website.
