KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Jackson County Detention Center tested 93 more inmates on Tuesday for the novel coronavirus.

Sheriff Darryl Forte told 41 Action News that an additional 123 inmates will be tested on Wednesday and test results will be reported once they are received.

"The detention center continues to operate following [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidelines and by following advice from our professional medical services provider," Forte said. "All inmates have been provided a mask and encouraged to wear the provided mask. The safety, security and wellness of all remain a priority.“

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 575 inmates have been tested for the virus, and 51 have returned positive results, according to Forte.
