KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The 16th Judicial Circuit Court further delayed jury trials at its downtown courthouse after a court employee tested positive for COVID-19, the court announced Friday.

The plan was to resume trials on Monday, Oct. 5, but now the courthouse has moved back to "Phase 1" of its court operations, which limits the number of people gathered in a courtroom or other areas within the courthouse to 10.

Courthouses must stay under an operational phase for a minimum of two weeks before moving into the next phase.

The decision doesn't affect other courthouses in the area, and the Eastern Jackson County Court house began summoning jurors on Sept. 21.

The 16th Judicial Circuit Court did not announce a new date for when jury trials would proceed at the downtown courthouse.
