KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Certain COVID-19 restrictions will remain in place in Johnson County for at least the next two months.

In a 5-2 vote, the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday approved an extension of a public health order that sets limits on gatherings and restricts operating hours for bars, restaurants and some other businesses.

The board's vote extends the order until March 31. It had been set to expire on Jan. 31.

Under the order, gatherings must remain limited to 50 people or 50% of a building's capacity, whichever is less. The order also extends the midnight closing time for bars and restaurants. Carryout, drive-thru and delivery can continue after midnight.

The health order does not include the county's mask mandate, which remains in effect under a separate order.

The board voted to extend the health order following a two-hour discussion at its meeting Thursday morning.
