KANSAS CITY, Mo. — AMC theaters nationwide - including several locations around Kansas City - will reopen Thursday after being closed for five months during the coronavirus pandemic.
In an effort to inform people of cleanliness, the company has implemented a sanitation program called AMC Safe and Clean.
AMC said it includes a limited number of available tickets for each show along with seat blocking for proper social distancing.
There’s also enhanced cleaning with electrostatic sprayers, HEPA vacuums and upgraded air filtration.
Customers will notice mask mandates, hand sanitizer stations and disinfectant wipes throughout theaters.
Kansas City-area resident Dana Perino said she might consider going to the theater.
“I think as long as you’re masked up and you’re maintaining social distance and there’s probably going to be space between chairs and stuff, I think I would,” Perino said.
However, area resident Kristal Raya said she won’t be one of the people returning to theaters when they reopen.
“I’ve been pretty cautious. I’m not likely to go. Not with all the home on demand stuff that you can get,” Raya said.
One hundred AMC theaters will reopen Aug. 20.
A financial report from the Leawood, Kansas, based company shows AMC Entertainment lost $561 million in their most recent quarter.
The movie chain is hoping to lure customers back with one day special $0.15 ticket price on Aug. 20.
AMC said they’re offering “Movies in 2020 at 1920 prices.”
The entertainment company said 1920 is the year the Dubinsky Brothers started a theater with a single screen in Kansas City that would be the start of AMC.
