KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas State Fair was officially canceled on Monday due to COVID-19 health concerns.
The State Fair Board voted at the beginning of July to go ahead and hold the 10-day fair in September as planned, despite advice from leading health experts.
However, many of the fair's vendors backed out of the lineup, making going forward financially difficult, according to the Associated Press.
The State Fair Board met Monday morning to make a decision on moving forward and ultimately voted to cancel the event.
The motion passed 13-0, according to NBC affiliate KSNW.
