KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, KC Parks is encouraging visitors to its parks and trails to Make a Difference While You Distance.
The city’s parks department is asking residents who visit the parks in the coming days — families or individuals, and not groups — to consider packing a trash bag and gloves to pick up litter along the way.
KC Parks will supply a kit for the litter cleanup effort for those who email parks.volunteer@kcmo.org or stop by one of five locations on weekdays at the listed times:
- South District Office, 6901 Elmwood Ave., 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Ruby Jean's Juicery, 3000 Troost Ave., 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- KC North Community Center, 3930 N.E. Antioch Road, 1 to 2 p.m.
- Southeast Community Center, 4201 E. 63rd St., 1 to 2 p.m.
- Gregg Klice Community Center, 1600 John Buck O'Neil Way, 1 to 2 p.m.
After picking up the trash, place the bag in the nearest trash receptacle or next to the trash can closest to the street. Park visitors also are asked to email a photo and location to parks.volunteer@kcmo.org.
KC Parks also asks participants to share photos on social media using the hashtags #KCMOParks and #EarthDayKC50.
Do not pick up chemicals, household waste or dead animals. Instead, call 311 or call 816-513-7525.
Help is appreciated at all the parks, but the following parks could use some sprucing up help the most:
- Blue Valley Park, East 23rd Street and Topping Avenue..
- Chouteau Greenway Park, Northeast 42nd Terrace and Chouteau Parkway.
- Hidden Valley Park, Northeast Russell Road and North Bennington Avenue.
- Kessler Park, Chestnut Trafficway and Cliff Drive.
- Noble Park, East 75th Street and Cleveland Avenue.
- Swope Park, Swope Parkway and Meyer Boulevard.
