OLATHE, Kan. — On Friday, Lake Olathe Park opened its beach and sprayground.
The sprayground is free and open to the public.
The Olathe Parks and Recreation Department encourage families to incorporate social distancing, use hand sanitizer and wear water shoes.
"We always have staff out here, rangers out here," Parks and Recreation spokeswoman Adrienne Lund said. "So if things start to get a little wild and crazy, there will be people that we can get with and see how we can mitigate the situation."
The sprayground is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The swim beach has a few more restrictions.
You must be an Olathe resident to go to the beach. Registration, which is online only, is $5 per person. Children 2 years old and younger are free. People who are 62 and older can get in for $3.
There are specific time slots participants will have to register for online as well.
"When you register, you pay online so you don't have to exchange any money at the door, you come and enjoy your two hours,"Lund said.
The time slots are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 1:30-3:30 p.m.; and 4-6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Crews will wipe down equipment between each time slot.
"For two hours, you can just enjoy the beach and we are capping it at 75 people," Lund said. "And that may change as we understand what our usage is and we might be able to relax some of those restrictions at a later date."
