KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An inmate at the Lansing Correctional Facility has died from COVID-19 complications, Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Dr. Lee Norman said Monday.
The inmate was a man in his 50s who had significant underlying health conditions, Norman said.
The state has been monitoring a cluster of cases at the facility.
“It’s always a challenge with an infectious disease like COVID-19 in places where people have restricted movements and are close together,” Norman said. “Of course we’re saddened by the passing of this inmate.”
Norman said the number of COVID-19 cases at Lansing Correctional had reached 115.
41 Action News has previously reported that those sick include both inmates and staff members.
