KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A inmate at the Lansing Correctional Facility and a fourth staff member have tested positive for COVID-19.

The staff member, according to a news release, is a man older than 20 and the inmate is a man older than 50.

Kansas Department of Corrections Secretary Jeff Zmuda announced on Saturday that the Lansing Correctional Facility will follow a “modified operational schedule” due to the additional cases.

Inmate movement will be reduced “so that they remain in their units,” according to the release, while “necessary movement” for jobs or recreation will occur in groups from the same unit. Staffing also has been modified.

“The additional steps today illustrate our continued effort to follow all guidelines issued by public health officials,” Zmuda said in the release. “We appreciate the continued support and guidance of [Kansas Department of Health and Environment] and Governor Laura Kelly, as we conduct our work in these challenging times.”
