KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The halls and classrooms are once again empty at the Lawson R-XIV School District.
On Tuesday, the district announced a staff member and three students tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the district to close down summer classes.
At the time, only Lawson Middle School and Southwest Elementary School were open.
In a press release, the district said, “We are taking the precautionary of ending summer school prematurely to help ensure that all can remain healthy in order to start the regular school year in August.”
Lawson joins dozens of school districts across the state trying to figure out how to safely open schools as the spread of the virus continues.
