KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A gathering of at least 100 teens earlier this month in a Lee’s Summit neighborhood has lead to an outbreak of COVID-19 cases, officials from the Jackson County Public Health Department said Friday.

A JCPHD spokesperson said at least five COVID-19 cases have been traced back to a party of 100 to 200 teenagers, most of whom were between the ages of 14 and 16, on July 10 in the Lakewood neighborhood in Lee’s Summit.

The party did not have a guest list, limiting the department's ability to conduct contact tracing to identify other people who might have been exposed to the virus.

The spokesperson said the health department believes students from six area high schools might have been in attendance, including Truman High School, Blue Springs High School, Blue Springs South High School, Grain Valley High School, Lee’s Summit North High School and Lee’s Summit West High School.

Anyone who attended the party should get tested. The health department is holding a testing clinic from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday, July 27, for those who were in attendance.
