LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — Blue Lotus Family Medicine in Lee's Summit has changed the way it is doing antibody testing for the novel coronavirus.

The office posted on Facebook that starting Monday, it requires people to pre-register for the antibody tests, which it was previously administering through a drive-thru site.

Shelly Kinnune and her husband and son tried to get a test at the drive-thru last Friday, but they said they were told all the tests were gone shortly after getting there.

"There was just a steady stream of cars turning around right at the entrance," Kinnune said.

Kinnune said all three family members believe they had the virus at one point because they did a lot of traveling between November and March.

Now, they want to know for sure if they had it so they can possibly help others by donating blood. Kinnune said knowing whether or not they had COVID-19 would also give them more peace of mind.

"It would be nice to know if we did have it, I think it would make us feel more relaxed," Kinnune said.

The office said all appointments for Monday, April 20, were booked, but the office does plan to have three more days of testing, including this coming Friday and next Monday and Friday.

Kinnune said she and her son were able to get an appointment for Friday, May 1, but they still have questions about what the test will tell them.

"There's the piece about not knowing if you're shedding the virus too, so there's these different levels of knowledge you get with the testing: do I have it or not; am I able to give it to others," Kinnune said.

According to Facebook posts, May 1 will likely be the last day the office offers the antibody testing.

41 Action News reached out to the office to find out if it plans to add more days but has not heard back.
