KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Lee’s Summit’s R-7 School District employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a letter sent to district families on Saturday, the district said that the Jackson County Health Department informed them of the case. The employee is “connected to” the district’s Nutrition Services meal program, according to the letter.

“At the direction of public health officials, the limited number of individuals who came in contact with this individual have been asked to self-isolate for a 14-day period in an abundance of caution,” the letter stated. “We wish a speedy recovery to the employee.”

The individual, according to the letter, had “limited responsibilities” with meal preparation.

“The health department does not believe that food or food packaging transmission, as well as secondary contact, (meaning coming into contact with someone who had a direct contract) is a risk at this time,” the letter stated.

The district will continue its meal-distribution services as previously scheduled.
