Live blog: Judge puts temporary restraining order on Gov. Kelly executive order

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, continues to spread across the world, and in Missouri and Kansas.

41 Action News is keeping track of all closings and cancellations, as well as tracking where positive coronavirus cases are located.

8:15 p.m. | A federal judge ruled Saturday night in favor of a temporary restraining order against an executive order from Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly limiting the size of religious gatherings.

Two Kansas churches - First Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church - filed a federal lawsuit earlier this week after Kelly’s executive order limiting the size of religious gatherings was upheld by the Kansas Supreme Court.

In his ruling Saturday night, Federal judge John W. Broomes granted the plaintiff's temporary restraining order, and denied Gov. Kelly’s motion to dismiss.

2:40 p.m. | The Kansas City metro has 42 new COVID-19 cases as of Saturday, bringing the total to 1,720. There also have been 93 deaths in the metro.

In Kansas, there are now 1,811 cases, an increase of 67, and 86 deaths, an increase of two.

In Missouri, there are 5,556 cases (135 new) and four additional deaths, bringing the state's death toll to 193.

Nationally, there are 716,883 cases and 37,659 deaths.

12:30 pm | The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is now reporting two more deaths from COVID-19, bring the state total to 86. The number of positive cases is now up to 1,790 across 66 counties. Johnson County has added 11 cases, bringing the total to 369. Leavenworth County is now up to 123 cases, while Wyandotte County is up to 412. Douglas County has one more case bringing the total to 43.
