KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, continues to spread across the world, and in Missouri and Kansas.

Updates on the spread of the virus and how it is affecting the metro can be found below for June 19.
8:47 p.m. | Another COVID-19 cluster has been announced at a Clay County long-term care facility. The Clay County Health Center sent a release Friday night about eight positive tests at Ashton Court Care and Rehabilitation Centre, which is located at 1200 W. College St. in Liberty.
5:32 p.m. | On his weekly Zoom call Wednesday, University of Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz spoke candidly about the current measures in place to address the COVID-19 pandemic as players have returned to campus for voluntary workouts and their impact on the Tigers' day-to-day football operations.
4:05 p.m. | Douglas County has extended Phase 3 of its reopening plan through July 5. Dr. Thomas Marcellino, Douglas County health officer, said current restrictions will be left in place because of a recent uptick in cases.
“We have seen an uptick in recent activity suggesting the coronavirus has become more active in our county,” Marcellino said. “I believe it’s more prudent to extend Phase 3 for two more weeks so we can get an idea of the trend of the virus and prevent chances for large mass gatherings that could potentially be a source of a large outbreak that could be devastating.”
3:50 p.m. | The seven-county Kansas City metro reported 270 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the largest increase of cases reported in a single day. On April 30, the metro had reported 267 cases.
Johnson County reported an additional coronavirus-related death on Friday, bringing the total deaths in the county to 77. Only Wyandotte County has reported as many deaths in Kansas (77).
In Kansas, confirmed cases rose to 12,125 with an increase of 300 cases, while Missouri reported an additional 215 cases, bringing the total statewide to 17,898.
1:20 p.m. | Officials at the Kansas City International Airport say passenger numbers began to rebound in May as stay-at-home orders lifted, but boardings continue to remain significantly lower than last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The KCMO Aviation Department says that 114,541 passengers arrived and departed through KCI in May, an 89.3% decrease from May 2019. Passengers boardings, which reflect those who depart from KCI, also were down 89.3%, with a total of 58,337.
Year-to-date, total passengers are down 51.4%, while passenger boardings are down 52.2%, according to the aviation department.
12:20 p.m. | Nationally, more than 30 million stimulus payments still haven't been issued. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates at least 143,000 Missourians are waiting on payments.
11:30 a.m. | AMC Theatres will reopen around 450 of its U.S. theaters on July 15 as part of a phased reopening following what its CEO called a “painful” hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The theaters will reopen with seating limits, contactless ticketing, and mobile food and beverage ordering.
9:42 a.m. | Johnson County health officials confirmed a Lenexa Chick-fil-A is closed because of a COVID-19 cluster identified at the restaurant. The restaurant is located on West 87th Street Parkway, and the cause of the outbreak is under investigation.
9:28 a.m. | Kansas reported the unemployment rate for the state dropped nearly 2% from April to May, but it still sits at 10% compared to March's roughly 3% rate.

5:30 a.m. | Friday marks one week of St. Joseph Medical Center being free of COVID-19 patients, according to its owning company, Prime Healthcare. Their other hospital in the area, St. Mary's Medical Center, has not had any virus patients since May 4.
5 a.m. | Many restaurants and bars in the Power and Light District opened back up to customers on Wednesday and Thursday. Shark Bar will be the latest to join, opening its doors on Friday.
