KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Corrections is implementing new measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within prisons.
According to the department, new technology will help with the sanitation of the air and surfaces and will detect COVID-19 in wastewater.
Ionization generators will purify the air and a total of 1,468 units will be used in MDOC facilities across the state.
The department will also electrostatic disinfectant sprayers on surfaces.
The Department of Natural Resources and the University of Missouri are helping MDOC monitor wastewater for COVID-19 outbreaks to corner any spread.
MDOC said that cases within prisons are declining, but rising cases in the community still pose a risk to those working at or visiting the department.
