KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Major League Soccer on Thursday lifted its moratorium on team training, and Sporting Kansas City says it plans to begin next week.
Each club must have its plans reviewed and approved by its medial staff and local infectious disease experts prior to submission to MLS for review.
Full team training will be mandatory for all players as teams take the next step toward a return to match play.
Before and during the full team training, many protocols must be met, including:
- Players must complete a physical; two polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests 24 hours apart, 72 hours prior to the start of training; and one baseline antibody (serology) test.
- Players, coaches and staff must complete PCR tests every other day.
- Serology testing will be performed once every three months.
- If a player or staff member tests positive, they will be isolated and tested again at least 24 hours later.
The training room, gyms and fitness areas will be restricted to no more than five individuals at a time. Individual lockers will be at least 10 feet apart.
Teams must have an emergency action plan for all COVID-19 related issues. Players must use personal protective equipment from the parking lot to the field or gym and keep face masks on in the training rooms.
