OLATHE, Kan. — Olathe Public Schools are holding in-person graduation this weekend at the College Boulevard Activity Center.

"It means a lot to be able to have this milestone in our lives because as we have experienced thus far, things are a little crazy," said Xander Stultz, who graduated from Olathe North High School on Saturday.

In April, they announced the change for the event because of COVID-19.

First, students will sit in chairs that are spaced out six feet apart on the field.

Families can come to graduation but there are some rules.

Each student is allowed to have six guests. District has more than 2,000 students graduating this weekend from five high schools.

Masks must be worn at all times when moving around, you can take them off when seated.

After the ceremony, there will be no congregating on the field. There will be designated areas for families to meet.

"Given that we are using a lot of safety precautions, I think it is very kind of them to try to put this on for us in person," said Eddie Dai, who graduated from Olathe North High School on Saturday.

On Saturday, Olathe North students graduate on at 10 a.m. and then Olathe South at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Olathe East at 10 a.m. and Olathe Northwest at 7:30 p.m.

The district is using the slogan "Stand Up, Mask Up" as a simple reminder about their mask procedure.

"It means a lot to all the students to be able to have this, truly," said Stultz.
