KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Overland Park EMS Chief Jason Green is still recuperating from his battle with COVID-19, but Thursday marked a bright spot in his journey.

Green, along with his family and members of the Overland Park Fire Department, got to thank health care workers at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission for the care they gave him during his fight.

“It was really important to me that I recognize you all,” Green said. “It’s just very humbling to be in the condition that I was in when I woke up, and to be as vulnerable as I was — not being able to walk, not being able to stand. I just want you to know how much I appreciate that.

Green was on a ventilator for 18 days.

His wife also was hospitalized with the virus, and his daughters showed symptoms and were quarantined.

“Unable to be with each other, they were totally reliant on these health care workers,” OPFD spokesperson Jason Rhodes said in a news release. “The Green family and the Overland Park Fire Department are grateful for the people who helped Jason beat this potentially deadly virus.”

Rhodes said Green is continuing rehabilitation at home, and his wife and daughters are doing great.
