KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Prairie Village restaurant that’s been part of the community for nearly 20 years won’t close its doors on Dec. 31 after all.

Blue Moose Bar and Grill announced earlier this month that it would close at year’s end due to financial hardship brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Monday, the restaurant said “the level of support we received from the community was far more than we could ever have imagined” and prompted the owners to find a way to stay open.

Blue Moose said it had“highly productive” meetings with its landlord, who has been supportive of the business and agreed to work with the restaurant to keep it open in “these tough times.”

Another expected round of funds from the Paycheck Protection Program will also help keep the doors open by paying for staff and investments, the restaurant said.

Blue Moose plans to roll out a new menu and cocktail selection in the spring, when it also plans to open a larger patio.
