KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As Missouri continues to work to prevent the spread of coronavirus, it will do so under a major disaster declaration.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump approved a request from Gov. Mike Parson to declare federal major disaster declaration for the state.

The designation allows the state to take advantage of a Federal Emergency Management Agency program to reimburse eligible costs incurred by government and nonprofit organizations. The measure also allows reimbursement for the costs of providing protective measures for first responders and “others responding to the coronavirus.”

Parson requested the declaration on March 24.
