KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Raytown branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library will be closed until further notice after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The library system said in a statement Monday that the staff member last worked at the branch, located at 6131 Raytown Road, on June 30.

Mid-Continent Public Library plans to notify any customers who were potentially exposed “if able to determine,” according to the statement.

All library staff who were possibly exposed “will be screened and closely monitored” before going back to work. The library also will undergo professional deep cleaning during the closure.

Mid-Continent Public Library is working with the Jackson County Health Department to determine the next steps.

A reopening date for the branch has not been set.

“The health and safety of our customers and staff remain our top priority, and we are taking swift action to ensure we mitigate risk as much as we possibly can,” Mid-Continent Public Library Director and CEO Steven V. Potter said in the statement.

Last month, the library system’s Boardwalk branch shut down after a patron who visited the branch tested positive for the virus. That branch has since reopened.
