KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four RideKC service routes will shut down temporarily, effective Dec. 14, due to staffing shortages related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority announced Monday.

RideKC cited staffing shortages and increasing community spread of COVID-19 in announcing that the 9 9th Street, 15 Truman Road, 55 Universities-Crossroads and 233 Vivion-Antioch bus routes will be discontinued for an undetermined period of time.

Last month, RideKC announced that bus service should only be used for “essential trips” — like going to work, getting groceries or medical appointments, as well as to pick up prescriptions — and warned that some route disruptions were coming.

Other RideKC routes remain in service for now, but that could change if COVID-19 continues to create staffing shortages.

Ride KC requires all riders and bus operators to wear face coverings and social distance.
