KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As educators in the Shawnee Mission School District map out a return to the classroom this fall, one thing is clear - there’s going to be lots of hand sanitizer.

As part of its Monday meetings, the Shawnee Mission School District Board of Education is set to review expenditures of nearly $68,000 to purchase alcohol gel sanitizer and dispensers.

The dispensers, according to an agenda item, would be installed in each instruction space across every district facility, with more dispensers placed in public spaces for student and staff access.

Funding for the sanitizer and dispensers would come from the Federal CARES Act.

The district plans to continue to review its reopening process as part of Monday night’s meeting.

Earlier Monday, Wyandotte County health and education officials outlined their plan to reopen K-12 schools for in-classroom instruction this fall.
