KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Rieger, a restaurant in the Crossroads Arts District, said Monday it will “close conventional services effective immediately.”
In a post on social media, The Rieger called the decision “gut-wrenching.”
Instead of its traditional service, The Rieger will run Crossroads Community Kitchen out of the restaurant, which will “serve our neighbors, guests and staff meals,” according to the post.
The meals will be only to-go, from 4 to 6 p.m. each day, on a pay-as-you’re-able basis.
Money earned from the meals “will go 100% to our hourly staff,” The Rieger said.
The Rieger asked those who are sick or who have been exposed to the virus to avoid the kitchen.
Workers “will be following intense sanitation and health procedures.”
The Rieger also asked for donations in its post, including monetary gifts, perishable items and to-go supplies.
“We believe that our community will show up and support this," The Rieger wrote, "and that the strength, resilience and creativity that we all possess will help us get through this incredibly difficult situation."

- Single use and new to-go supplies
- Gloves
- Sanitizer
- Soap
- Paper Products
